COACHES STATEMENT

Pythons travelled north to face Phantoms in the freezer at Peterborough.

After a couple of solid training sessions and coming to revenge a home loss against the North Cambridgeshire side, the Pythons were hopeful. The puck dropped and with young bus legs the Phantoms stormed straight though and shot past a cold net minder.

We reset and started to play solid. Positions held well and had great movement out of the zone, the break outs flowed but the biscuit slipped away and the Phantoms were quick on the turn over. A few goals went in but we kept our cool. Passing showed great improvement throughout, heads were up and players started to skate. A well drilled Peterborough side flowed with rotations through the centre lane and left our spotted players a bit lost throughout the second period.

On the buzzer the Zamboni came out for a quick sweep so a visit to the locker room saw a stern talk. Third period came and what I can only say looked like a completely different team from the off. Hard work non stop hunting on the puck and some tough battles smashed, we had a fair few chances but just couldn't find a finish.

The players really showed what dedication and the right attitude can do and even after ending the game on a loss we were so pleased with the result, even the managers and coaching staff from the Phantoms bench came to praise the improvement.

Well done ladies! What a great learning experience. All smiles and a nil nil third period is something to be proud of.
