COACHES STATEMENT
Bright bus journey westbound for the Cobras this week saw us take on the almighty Swindon Topcats.
With the best first period played all season, Cobras looked viscous and hungry with power to tame a lion!! Passing was precise and work rate was amazing. An early few goals from both sides saw us take a third late in the first sitting, finding the buzzer for a three two period.
A short break into the second saw the wind hit our sails in the opposite direction and the gaps we made visible were split open by a relentless Topcat team. They found a second gear and smashed down the motorway to really take advantage of the difficult line changes from the end swap. Our net was really struck hard and the shots on target told the tale. Four ginos gained for Swindon in seven minutes, which really took its toll but the girls skated endlessly up and down winning raves and battles throughout.
An ice cut for the third saw a visit back to changing room for a regroup. Two small changes on what we called a restart game starting the third. We looked back and hungry but Swindon seemed to again up another gear and really take control, drafting out our players from their positions and making their easy decent to the net.
The girls gave everything throughout but just wasn't our day to be playing hockey in some one else's back yard. The score does not tell the story of effort. Again even in loss we gave it our all. Results don't always give you a story of success but with a short bench of experience we still battled from buzzer to buzzer. Bring on the next, in the words of Peter Cunnah, things can only get better.
