Our 2nd game of the season took us across the water to Kent to face the Invicta Dynamics.
The Dynamics are also a new team this season but currently sit at the top of the div 2 league, and consist of some experienced players that have previously played in WNIHL div 1, so nerves and anxiety were high.
In the 1st period we quickly settled and within 3 minutes our #75, Keziah Burchell scored a goal Connor Bedard would be proud of, with a sniper shot over the goalies shoulder, going bar-down. Not long after the Dynamics equalised, making it a 1 - 1 hockey game.
The ladies didn't drop their heads, kept playing offensively, and at 13m45s our #48, Summer Basing buried the puck in the net, ending the 1st period 1 - 2 to the Pythons.
With the realisation this could be a game we could win, the ladies started the 2nd period on fire. Determined, they kept pushing hard, playing with good pressure on the opposition and closing down the majority of their rushes early. But after a scrap in front of our net, the Dynamics equalised again, making it 2 - 2. Once again they didn't drop their heads and at 29m52s our #81, Stevie Burns scored our 3rd goal through their goalies 5 hole, closing out the 2nd period 2- 3 to the Pythons.
The 3rd period was end to end hockey, and our nettie, #77, Lillith Wright, made some amazing saves, keeping us in the lead. Then at 52m57s our #49, Kaite-May Smith scored our insurance goal. With the score now 2 - 4 to the Pythons and still 7 minutes to play, the ladies dug deep, worked their socks off, and at the final buzzer, took their first WIN.
Final score: 2 - 4
Let's go Pythons, the bar has been set.
